Organ Vespers 2023 [Christmas Across the Generations]
Join us as we celebrate “Christmas Across the Generations,” a musical weaving of the original Christmas Story through the familiar Christmas storybooks and musical classics of our childhood. Organist Tandy Reussner will be joined by a variety of local musicians and beloved local storyteller, Linda Clay, for the perfect start to the holiday season! This community-favorite concert is a fun, free, family-friendly event, and will include a short intermission with complimentary cookies. No tickets are required. Seating is limited, so arrive early. Doors open at 4 pm.
Monetary donations collected online and at the concert will be given to the Lawrence Library’s Summer Reading program, a program that benefits readers of all generations and helps kids stay educationally engaged during the summer break. Funds donated will be used to help connect children and teens - and their parents and grandparents - with interesting and challenging books, and will also help fund prizes for the completion of reading a certain amount of books during the summer.
Invite your friends and family to this year’s 27th annual Organ Vespers concert. It’s designed for all ages and not one to be missed!

Land of The Free
The final concert of the series will move to the Lied Center Main Stage on Sunday, July 2, 2023 at 4 pm for an afternoon of Patriotic music, entitled “Land of the Free.” Join friends and family from the entire city of Lawrence as we celebrate our freedoms and honor those who have served and died for our country and those freedoms. Special guests performing with Dr. Reussner will include The Lawrence City Band, as they perform such classics as Sousa’s Stars and Stripes, God Bless America, and America the Beautiful. Proceeds for this concert will benefit the Lawrence Family Promise.
Kansas Classics Pep Rally
The third concert of the series takes place at the start of March Madness on Sunday, March 5, 2023, at 5 pm at First United Methodist Church. After winning a National Basketball Championship by the KU team last year, Dr. Reussner, a local pep band, and the Medical Men’s Choir will rally the community for a run at another title, with treasured songs of Old KU. Come hear an organ Toccata on the tune heard around Lawrence each hour from the iconic Campanile, and listen to the crooning of the Medical Men’s Choir as they present KU songs from the early 1900s. Proceeds from ticket sales will benefit the new LMH Treatment Recovery Center. This is one concert you won’t want to miss!
26th Annual Organ Vespers
The second concert of the series brings back the much beloved Lawrence classic for the 26th year, Organ Vespers, on Sunday, Dec. 18th at 5 pm, also at First United Methodist Church. This year’s concert will feature the Lawrence Children’s Choir and ticket & donation proceeds will benefit the world-renowned children’s choir that teaches children as early as 3 years old the benefits and proper techniques of choral singing. New this year is the addition of a caroling party for all attendees immediately following the concert. Dress appropriate for the weather and come with us as we join all of our voices in community on Mass. Street! This concert is free and open to the public, but a ticket is still needed to enter.
Organ By Candlelight
The first concert of the series will be held on October 30, 2022, at 7 pm, at First United Methodist Church in historic downtown Lawrence. Join us for a fun Harvest night of “Organ by Candlelight: A Night with the Masters.” The concert, held on the largest pipe organ in the state of Kansas with over 7000 pipes, will highlight the different sounds available from the organ through short works by Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, and others. Surprises, spooky and not-so-spooky, are in store for the whole family! Proceeds for this concert will benefit a local food bank, Just Food.
